Also, do I need to palm roll them every day, or can I go a few days without? I had dreads before but I have a completely different texture to my hair after children. They will be a month old on the 21st. HELP!! Will they eventually round out when they start maturung more?
Anonymous asked: i did a bunch of swimming at a waterpark. i normally swim in lakes and nothing happens i think it was the chlorine. i've palm rolled them and everything but they won't revert. now i'm thinking about cutting them off or just taking them down and starting over *sigh*

Erm… guys… I’m not sure if we just received hate or not. Someone posted this into submissions: “you have dreads… thats the problem”. Erm. Help?
Anonymous asked: How exactly do you wash dreads? I'm curious.
Anonymous asked: I would love to get dreads, but i've been watching a lot of videos and reading up on them, and apparently it's best if you have naturally frizzy hair. My hair is really oily, and i have to wash it every day so it doesn't look greasy. Do you think that would be a problem?
carltonthegreat asked: I want free formed dreads but I want them to free form from my twists....which I don't have yet. Are there any videos that show you how to twist your own hair?
small-townsyndrome asked: The worest thing is the loose hair are cray and i've had my dreads since sept 2010. I hjave tried croucheying them but even after 4 hours no matter what it's the same 3 days later. I was told to use wax but i feel that it would be more of a paint to use wax again
small-townsyndrome asked: i hate when two dreads start coming together at the roots. It's happened about 4 times and i'm trying to prevent it. Does any on ehave any tips on how to avoid this and also how to make loose hairs stay after croucheying them into dreads with out useing wax? I have too many loose hairs and when i crouche them into my dreads 3 days later they're out again

sillypander asked: I started my dreads almost 3 months ago, the ones on the top of my head stayed nicely and they're pretty knotted tight, but around the sides and back fell out after a while. I know this is normal, and I re-backcombed and t&r'd the hair that was completely loose just last week to get them started up again. I was just wondering if anyone had some advice to keep them knotting. I sleep...
megalomaniology asked: Ppl with loose hair: Aloe gel (100% the kind from a health food store not the kind with gelatin and crap for a skin moisturizer) or Aloe from a plant works wonders for loose hair or frizzies. Honestly, get used to it frizzies are a part of the hair style in the beginning & if you're asking chance are you're at the start. The great dread pictures w/o frizzies are either: really mature...
thehakunamatatalife asked: how long should someone's hair be for when they decide to get dreads? I plan on getting them for the first time.
rockandrollsweetheart13 asked: This is a reply about the twist and rip method. Basically you just twist the end of your dread and then take small portions and pull it up. You can find numerous videos on youtube for it :]

yes, twist and rip is for making dreads, not for maintainng them.
midgetpingas asked: I've had my dreadlocks for about 4 years now, and I've heard rumors about that your hair will die when you've had them for too long. I don't think this is true, but it depends on how you maintain them, right? I still crochet and backcomb them, but I plan on maybe using the twist & rip method because everyone says it's alot better... but how do you do the twist &...
twatmonkey asked: For the Delacet, do you think it will 100 percent work? Because I think I've had lice for quite sometime now and it isn't just a little, it's a lot, and if I order that stuff I want to be sure it works since it's coming all the way from the UK.
thiscouldtearusapart asked: Hi guys, I've had my dreads for 6 months and am loving them more and more each day but I am getting so frustrated with the loops. They have bumps along the sides and seem a bit flat. I palm roll them constantly and occasionally use wax but I don't know, is it a bad idea to crochet the loops in? Are these normal in which I should just give them more time? I've read on here that they...
Anonymous asked: How do i keep my locks from smelling bad? thanks :)
fleshonflesh asked: to the guy wondering about crocheting, don't maintain by crocheting your dreads. If you are worried about loose hair there are natural ways to help this. Examples include: palm rolling, sea salt spray, and TIME
gilidngilong asked: i made my partition too big and now i'm getting scalp zits because of the tugging. what should i do?
twatmonkey asked: so I just recently found out I have lice. I am so depressed lol. I really don't want to have to take my dreads out. any suggestions?
Anonymous asked: what about crocheting dreadlocks? there are some different opinions on the net. im worried about the "bunch of loose" hairs. are they really such problem?
galanga-lang asked: (twist & rip) genraly a good method for tight dreads, if its loose at the roots make sure when you do the others keep pulling really tightly at the top and try to keep the twisting to a minimum as this makes a dreadlock that looks a bit like a plait. keep pulling the hair apart, it seems like your getting nowhere and takes a while but trust me its the best for this method, as for loose hairs...
Anonymous asked: what do you think about twist and rip dreads? any experiences? i have just done two of them, and they are very tight, but the roots are all loosen up. and there is like a bunch of loose hairs, even though i crocheted them last night.
alexaisaprincess asked: Tips for frizzy dreads? Mine are looking a little crazy.
dreadventure asked: To the person with dandruff: you need to wash your hair regularly but not THAT often (I wash mine once a week) and when you do you need to wash with a natural bar of soap, because popular shampoos and stuff have a lot of chemicals in them that interrupt your heads' natural process of regulating oil. You can use apple cider vinegar and pour it on your scalp while you're washing your hair...
fairiesandstrawberries asked: To the person who asked about sectioning: I agree with dreadproblems in saying that they don't look like they are square-sectioned when they are all done. Mine don't. It's easier for the root to dread if you section them in like sided squares (i.e 3 cm x 3 cm). I have one or two rectangular shaped roots, and I have a harder time getting those to dread together at the base than the...
ifthefutureisreal asked: About the washing: Four months is SO long:O The first month I didn't wash them, after that every week and now every two days. And they're perfectly fine:) Actually, someone told me that soap is good because hair doesn't dread when it's greasy..
arborvitae asked: And to the anon wondering about sectioning: I think the most common way to section dreads to use the brick lay pattern. The squares are staggered so that you won't have scalp showing. But you can section however you want, there is no right or wrong way.
arborvitae asked: To the anon worrying about dandruff: assuming you're dreads are new, the dandruff will go away with time. The itchy, dandruff stage happens when your hair isn't used to not being brushed and it will go away after your dreads mature. Adding some apple cider vinegar to water and using it to rinse your hair after you shampooed it can help. If you've had your dreads for a while,...
in-lakech asked: The first few months I had dreads I didn't wash them at all, and I had a lot of dandruff in the roots. but around 4 months I washed them for the first time and there is no more dandruff now. Some people think you should never wash them, but in my experience, if they are sufficiently locked up there is no harm in washing them, and it will get rid of any dandruff. I use Dreadhead HQ's...
bleibenatmen asked: I think one of the best things you can do when you have dandruff, is to wash your hair really carefully and to scratch at the roots of your dreads while washing. I wash my hair with Zwitsal, don't know if that sounds familiar, but it's a babyshampoo without soap in it (which is always the best shampoo to wash your dreads with). You can try to wash the roots of your dreads with an...
cig-ar-ette asked: tea tree essential oil and/or lavender essential oil and/or rosemary essential oil mixed with Baking Soda (Sodium bicarbonate) in warm water, soak your head in it for a while then rinse! Be sure to massage your scalp with your finger tips! This mix is great for regular washing too~♥
ifthefutureisreal asked: About the dandruff: if your dreads are new, maybe you just need a little patience so your skin can adjust to you less washing your hair? (I can't find the right words so I hope you understand me:) )
Anonymous asked: i was wondering if anyone knows how to get rid of dandruff? because i seem to be building a lot, not so much on my dreads but the roots.
Anonymous asked: thanks for the last answer, it was helpful :D i don't want to divide my hair into the squares, it's not natural.. how should i section it? any advices?

Dyeing Dreads
I want to go crazy and put some colour in my knots.
Would you lot help?
Edit: Does anyone know any specific dyes that are good to use?
fairiesandstrawberries asked: To the person who asked. You don't need wax. At all. In fact, I'd say your dreads will be a lot healthier without wax in 'em. Also.. In my humble opinion, twist and rip is a better method than just backcombing (I used a combo of the two). The crochet hook is a great tool while making the dreads, but I wouldn't recommend using it for maintenance later on when they are older. It...
Anonymous asked: im going to make myself locks in a few weeks.. i plan to backcomb them and crochet them, maybe wax them. i have a few questions. how shorter will my hair be? how can i make it more easy to backcomb and crochet dreadlocks that are on the back of my head? is crocheting and waxing good? there are plenty of opposite opinions on the net. and is there any recipe for home made wax? i like it natural....

vaffanculo-83 asked: Just my own input- I think that it all depends on why you wear them. It is said for those who wear them as Rasta's- they are dreadlocks, because the men who wore them dreaded(or feared) god. To each their own really though. I will always call them dreadlocks, or Jata as I am a believer in the Rastafari Movement.
cassidypavlick asked: This whole debate is bullshit, it doesn't matter at all what you call them, you can call them whatever the fuck you want. Sometimes I call them dreads and sometimes I call them dreadlocks. I don't see how it makes any difference at all.
Anonymous asked: At first they were called "locks" but then racists began to call them dread locks because they thought they were uncivilized, ugly, and dreadful. So they started saying "dreadlocks" and It just caught on. I know it's not a common fact, I just want people to know. To my mom and aunts it just seems like an insult to call them "dreadlocks" because as you know there...
Anonymous asked: I really don't think it matters what people call them, it's just one person being picky because their family call them something different to other people.... I thought the whole idea of this page was for people with dreads to have somewhere to share their problems... not criticise each other :s
dread-girl asked: Some people think that the word "dread" comes from the colonial british "dreading" the mau mau warriors locks. It's all open to interpretation realy. Other cultures have had dreads for as long as people have been around. If you are comfortable saying dreadlocks then call them dreadlocks.
locsgirl asked: To the anon: Really, whether they're called 'dreadlocks' or 'dreads' or 'locks' or 'locs' or 'Rastalocks' or 'Microlocs' or 'Sisterlocks' or 'Braidlocs' or whatever, they're all tangled ropes of hair. It's up to the individual to call them what they will. Some people don't mind the term...
megalomaniology asked: There are different history and connotations that are association with the word "dreads" vs "locks" vs "dreadlocks". At this point in our culture it's preference but if you feel the need you can look up the history and decide for yourself what they mean to you and call them accordingly. I never correct anyone that calls mine "dreads" or a...
